Laptop Wars: Mac vs. PC (Argument For Mac)

Macs are more personal than a "Personal Computer".

KRISTIN PATTERSON | staff writer

Throughout my college years, friends have given me lists of what they want to do or buy with the money they are able to save. Of course, the lists are strikingly different depending on the laptop they own. On the lists of my PC–owning friends, a Mac laptop was overwhelmingly first. My Mac–owning friends, on the other hand, already have the computer of champions, so their number one item was usually something along the lines of traveling to Europe.

While living in the dorms my freshman year, I got to listen to a ridiculous amount of horror stories from my friends with PCs. “I got a virus!” “My computer crashed!” “Ahh! I hate Clean Access! I can’t use the Internet!” Listening to their cries, I wondered what it would be like to live in this world of terror and uncertainty, but was glad I didn’t have to know.

Lonnie Urven, APU’s technical director for Cinema Arts, says, “Apple produces computers and software that function where people do most of their living.”

Macs allow you to do whatever you need to do without going through a lot of hassle. In addition, if something does go wrong, Apple has great customer service available.

Walking out of an Apple store gives you the feeling of being incomparably cool. Their stores are a wonderland of technology and innovation. You feel as though you have just witnessed pure genius. This feeling could be the reason why Macs have such a strong pull on the younger generation and are often seen as being the “artsy” computer.

People who have Macs seem fiercely in love with them. What gives Macs that powerful draw? I have explained it below in a love poem for Mac.

Ode to Mac
How do I love thee, Mac? Let me count the ways.
I love thee because you rarely freeze or crash
You give me the ability to find anything fast
You update when new software is released
All the problems with Cisco Clean Access cease
Your battery lasts at least three hours, when it
Can’t go much more, it warns me before it quits
Your keyboard shortcuts are a dream to use
I can put my calendar on my iPod if I choose
Everything is but a click away
It seems like you get better every day
You understand me, Mac, and that is why
I’ll stick with you forever, till you die
