From M&M's to nature, green deserves the limelight.

Green is the best thing that’s ever happened to blue and yellow combined.

The color green is unavoidable in life. It surrounds us in nature, we drink and eat things that are green— it’s everywhere!

Considering the Superbowl was last week, it’s probable that many of you attended a family or friends gathering of some sort.

While the Green Bay Packers didn’t make it to the finals, I’m sure you had no problem coping since those chips you were snacking on probably took a few dips in the green guacamole next to the salsa bowl.

When it comes to decor, green is currently the most popular pick. It’s a warm, balancing color, mainly because it lies in the middle of the visible color spectrum.

The word “green” is derived from the Old English word “growan,” meaning, “to grow.” It is closely associated with energy, harmony, hope, nature and youth, just to name a few.

Even Hollywood goes green. When celebrities are waiting to appear on T.V., they wait in a “green room” to relax, since green is also a tranquil and refreshing color. Now I understand why my dentist’s office had lush, green forest wallpaper covering the room from floor to ceiling. It was to calm me down before he drilled my multiple cavities.

The color green is also useful on the road. When you’re stuck in traffic and waiting impatiently for the lights to change, red or yellow won’t come to the rescue. It’s the green light that will give you the go.

They say a mother knows best. Well, when mother told you to eat your green vegetables, she was right. Green vegetables including asparagus, broccoli, green beans, and zucchini are low in calories and high in volume. Meaning, they are energy dense and contribute to weight loss.

Even M&Ms are expressing their fondness for green. As of January 2008, the Mars Co. is advertising its limited edition all-green M&Ms that will be available through Valentine’s Day.

Circulating since the ‘70s, rumor has it that green M&Ms are an aphrodisiac. With that said, the Mars Co. wants to embrace the alleged gossip and celebrate its new color for love.

Green isn’t only about being environmentally friendly and ecologically aware. It’s also about enjoying all the wonderful things this color has to offer.
