L.A. traffic can be frustrating, to say the least. Paying for gas can be inhibiting. But with Azusa’s location, staying in town isn’t always an option. Here’s a list of tips for using the Metro and a few of the many places you can go on the Metro rail.
1. To get to the closest Metro station, Sierra Madre Villa, take the 210 West and exit at Madre St. If you use Foothill Transit, take the 187 bus, which has stops near both East and West campus.
2. Tickets are available at any station. A one-way ticket for any one line is $1.25, and a Day Pass is $5.00 and can be used all day on all the Metro lines and buses.
3. To get to Pasadena, take the Gold Line (which starts at Sierra Madre Villa), and get off at Lake station. There are other Pasadena stops along the way, but the Lake station stop is closest to Colorado Blvd., where most of the fancy shopping and dinning is.
4. To get to Long Beach, take the Gold Line to Union Station and transfer to the Red or Purple Line. Get off at 7th Street/Metro Center and get on the Blue Line. It will take you all the way down to Long Beach, a nice change from somewhere like Newport.
5. To get to Hollywood, one of the most sought after locations, take the Gold Line to Union Station and transfer to the Red Line. You can get off near West Hollywood, in North Hollywood, and even at Universal City.
6. If you purchase a Day Pass, you can use the buses to explore cultural districts. Chinatown is a stop on the Gold Line, Olvera Street is across the street from Union Station, and Little Toyko is within walking distance.
