On Saturday, Feb. 21 the Azusa Pacific track and field team held a Last Chance Qualifier at Cougar Stadium.
Some of the top finishers included National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American, junior Jacky Kipwambok, who finished with a time of 17:22.51 in the 5000 meter event.
Senior Jaime Canterbury finished that same event with a time of 17:56.45.
The day marked many firsts and records for not the only the athletes, but for Cougar track and field history as well.
Junior pole vaulter Jordan Savidge earned the NAIA’s top pole vault mark this season and the fifth-best in Cougar history, with a height of 16 feet and 8 3/4 inches.
Personal records that were accomplished at Saturday’s event, include junior Trevor Fulkerson and senior James Burke in the 600-meter hurdles.
Another personal record was earned by junior Erin Dwyer, in the 20-pound weight throw at 43 feet and 9 3/4 inches.
Sophomore Abednego Magnut, who participated in his first-ever track and field meet qualified for the NAIA indoor track and field in the 5000 meters.
Track and field will have their next meet, the Rossi Relays, this Saturday, Feb. 28 at noon in Claremont.
