Enjoying Summer Sun

MEAGAN CLEMENTS | staff writer

Sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Guitarist Matt Wertz’s debut album Under Summer Sun is a lively listen from start to finish.

Released in late 2008, Under Summer Sun fuses bright imagery, canny lyrics and wholesome sounds.

With his breathy vocals painting summer imagery though lyrics like, “Wearing our brown skin sprinkled with sea breeze,” and “The open air and you on highway one,” Wertz offers listeners a timeless collection of feel-good folk and acoustic, fingerstyle riffs.

Wertz’s bouncy rhythms complement his colorful chord progressions and playful, pop sensibility as he sketches images of the sunlight dancing with the distance and nostalgia as thick as the August air.

“We both know that I can think myself dizzy” recalls Wertz on “5:19,” a song about the end of a relationship.

Wertz admits “growing up” isn’t always easy in Waiting and encourages listeners to remain strong even when hope is gone in “Keep Faith.”

Laden with honesty and vulnerability, Under Summer Sun is a ripe blend of energy-infused hooks and ballads that soar and inspire listeners.

Whether you enjoy dancing, driving or daydreaming, Wertz’s music will have something for you.

An artist with a vision for composing stylish yet exclusive melodies, Matt Wertz is a charming singer/songwriter whose major label debut has swept the Southern California music scene.
