The softball team began this season with a new coach and many new members. However, they are taking the time to begin this season with a bang as they take the pre-season 5-3.

The Cougars came into this season with a few new obstacles after finishing out last year 15-25.

The women had a bad season last year and then they found out they would have a new coach. Head coach Carrie Webber inherited this year’s team after her predecessor scouted out the freshmen and selected the team members.

Cougar junior Camille Hundley might be this season’s star of the show. She has a season batting average of .524 so far.

In a game last Saturday, Hundley didn’t hit any runs but she didn’t allow any runs to go by either. However her teammate, freshmen Cassie Treischel hit three of the teams six runs in the first game. She is new to the team and shows great potential for the team. Her statistics may not show an immediate improvement but she has been increasingly doing better.

The Cougars have had a strong start with four wins in Oregon and a split with Cal State Dominquez. This year’s season may be like a ray of sunshine after a bumpy year last year.

Of course, when the season starts, the team will have to face the top GSAC teams. A good majority of the teams will be formidable foes for the Cougars.
